R1 Thermostat

Hi, Does anyone know if you can cut and weld the standard metal pipe that joins the thermostat housing to the cylinder on a 5pw R1? Reason being id like to keep the thermostat 6mm hose and if i could do this it would fit under the bonnet.
Cheers
Adam

One of the guys who's got an MNR build site has moved it with extending pipework onto those standard pipes, have a look around, if i have time tonight i will find the site and let you know.

I have seen that but its just a bit messier, lots of extra hoses=£, time finding measuring etc and cutting the top hose metal pipe. for cost and time i thought it may be easier to shorten the stock thermostat to head metal pipe but id like to know if it can be welded or not as im unsure of the material as its a goldy colour.

I think the yellow colour is only cadmium plating on steel.

Are you talking about the small bleed pipe? If so if you swap the thermostat end with one from a 5JJ it points inwards. I think I have one at home which I bought from Malc as I was going to do this mod on the Fury. In the end I moved the engine

I'll have a dig around later.
