R1... 4 trumpets, 2 lenghts... which where?
2003 r1.
4x induction trumpets.
Is it tallest in the middle and shortest on outside?

Trying to work out why the R1 air box i have, has different inlet trumpets to whats on my engine?
Then cut the bonnet to fit the air box

GSXR600 K1 also has longer inner trumpets also.
I assumed it was to smooth out the torque curve (i.e. putting the peak torque in different places for the different pairs of cylinders).
If you use just short ones then theory suggest you get best power at highest rpm. The latest R1's dynamically vary the length!

Most engines today have 2 sets of trumpets the longer ones give more torque the smaller ones more power
so you get the best of both worlds
but in practise using 4 small ones you really wont notice the difference

Try mounting the box "the wrong way round too" if you need bonnet room. thats what I have on my Mk and it fits fine mate - as per the pic
in my ad too.
cheers

Tried fitting last night - air box inlets inside engine bay and inlets externally.
Decision - inlet internally, hopefully find a bonnet vent/bulge/scoop to hide.
Another beer and another night - i'll probrably change my mind
