R1 sticks at 6000rpm?

Shes been running a bit lumpy at low revs for a while and a bike mechanic who heard her said there may be an air leak on the throttle boddies. Sprayed some degreaser and bingo the revs went up. Took them off to clean the inlet rubbers today, replaced them and now she revs up to 6K and wont come back down. Swapped the map on the power commander and adjusted the throttle values. Got her to start on 2K but goes to 6K on the touch of the throttle and stays there until turned off then the same again on restart. Throttle adjustment screw doesnt seem to work any more when turning it?

Things checked..

Cable isn't sticking levers close ok.
Cleaned body pistons and check rubber diaphragms.

Any ideas please.

It's a R1 5PW injection model.

something else preventing the throttle plates closing (which is why they are too far open, and you are the idle adjustment doesn't work. Take off the airbox and look down the inlet.

Is there slack in the throttle cable (there should be a little)?

That was happening to mine, it was down to ignition timing. It has been running very badly low down though, ie no power under 2k.

Just ran her up the road and something interesting.

Start up = 2K rpm
Rev on pedal goes to 6K
Drive and accelerate stays around 6K if using clutch to change gear (not usually)
BUT.. Change down when going slower and let the engine labour a bit under load and the revs return to 2K

I'll strip them off again tomorrow to check nothing in the way of them closing.

My word.. I managed to fix something (after messing up)

Took a close look at the throttle cable cam and noticed something under it. When I put the inlet rubbers back on, one of the steel band retainers had twisted around and the screw for tightening it had got under the cam not allowing it to close fully.

So SORTED!!!!! Ta daaaaaaaah.

Now available for hire on any band rotated under throttle cam problems anyone may have haha
