K8 1340 Hayabusa Injection woes

I'm posting this for a good mate who has got himself into a bit of a fix by trying to help someone out....

The car is a space frame circuit racer with a standard 1340 K8 Hayabusa motor installed. My pal got involved as the car would not rev much over 7500 and was, over that, very short of puff.

It turns out that the secondary injectors (supposed to cut in around 7500) are not doing their thing. The original loom on the car was made by a self acclaimed superstar from a local bike shop and when my pal first looked at the car it was showing a whole heap of fault codes, all due to the loom. Having fixed all the loom problems no more fault codes show but the secondary injectors are still not injecting.

Next assumption is that the ECU has been damaged by the incorrect wiring and a brand new ECU is bought and installed. On the start up while watching the injectors the secondary injectors did work for a few seconds and then, after the motor fired up we were back to square one. No secondary injectors and nothing over 7500.

Two questions arise. First off does anyone know of a wiring type problem that could destroy the part of the ECU that drives the secondary injectors?

And assuming that the ECU is indeed now US and that this has been caused by the loom, does anyone have for sale a K8 Hayabusa loom, ECU and key????

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Hi should have asked earlier just sold my last loom ecu assy but your problem is that the clutch switch has been joined together on 8 injector type suzuki,s the ecu needs to see a clutch signal so unjoin the clutch wires and use a switch and you will see the secondary injectors working ok

cheers malc

Woohoo! Thanks Malc, I'll get back to him on this one. I must admit I'd be surprised if he's been had by this one cos we went there in 2004 on the 1000 GSXR motor where shorting out the clutch switch put them into a 'safe' (ie rubbish) mode.

Will keep you posted.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Malc,

I could do this by U2U but the info may, in the future, be useful to someone else.

The clutch switch has been replaced by a relay, driven by the starter circuit. As previously said we had this problem with a 1000 motor back in 2004 and it was Steve Webster who gave me the solution back then.

To eliminate any kind of probelm with the relay installation the motor has also been run without the relay, shorting the switch to start and then running open circuit.

The ECU part number is different from those you had quoted, I suspect because the ECU is a french market model with a 106 horsepower limiter built in.

ECU part no 32920-15H030-000

Also on the ECU 112100-5891 and 12V NEPOL8

The 106 HP limiter is disabled by removing an earth on the ECU provided for this purpose which should render it identical to the UK spec ECU.

I'd be happy to take up your offer to test the ECU if that is possible or to hear any other gems of wisdom you have on the subject.

Thanks Malc. You are indeed a star
