HOW TO?? Balancing My ZZr1100 Carbs...... HELP?

morning all.

R1_pete has been kind enough to lend me his balancing kit. Which im very thankful for. (although he has just come back from greece which im well jealous about)

Anyway.

I have got some new carbs for the zzr1100 as i had a damaged diaphragm and it worked out cheaper.

i have fitted the carbs and it starts and runs....

It needs balancing then i need to fit the air filter which im going to do when the balancing is done.

how do i balance these carbs?

the balancing kit i have is simular to these here.

http://www.hydroponicsonline.com/store/Carburetor-Synchronizer-carb-sync-Gauge-CB-550-650-750_220434242707.html

i dont know how to balance the carbs on the zzr1100 c model carbs.

anyone know what i need to do?

I have uploaded a video of it the engine running. (i know it dont sound perfect but it is running better than b4.)

Hi Dave

Download the service manual from http://www.blackbears.ru/index_en.php?get=manual

It looks like all the info you need is in there.

One carburettor is not adjustable so the others are balanced to that.

It doesn't matter what the readings on the gauges are as long as they are all the same (or as close as you can get)

HTH

on mine it went something like this.

Connect up the gauges to the 4 carbs.

Get engine to around 2krpm.

Twiddle the little valves on the hose to the gauges so that the needles twitch and are clearly dynamic, but not flying all over the place.

By this time the engine will be warm, which is a good thing.

Twiddle the balancing screws to get 4&3 balanced.
Adjust the idle back to 2k
Twiddle the balancing screws to get 1&2 balanced
Adjust the idle back to 2k
Twiddle the balancing screw to get the two pairs balanced.
Adjust idle back to 2k.

It is worth reving the engine a bit, not just to annoy the neighbours, but also to let the adjusters settle a bit.

Then repeat all the above steps to higher precision.

One more thing to bear in mind: There is some interplay between the idle mixture screws (one per carb, normally on the underside) and the balance. So, before you do all the above you might want to make sure the idle mixtures are where you want them.

You might want to drop the RPM to nearer your standard idle and repeat. Its difficult to get poorly balanced carbs to balance at low RPM without stalling, so first round should be at 2k or so.

This same method works for TBI's as well. If you have the manual then that will be better than my attempts at explaining.

It is quite a gratifying job,

Matt

On my gsxr Mikuni carbs there was a rubber cap (8mm o.d.) on top of a breather on the black cover.

Like as the top left of this picture

In my case they were wire-locked on.

I don't know about how you do it with zzr1200 carbs, but there is likely to be something similar.

Did you manage to get hold of the manual, I think that would make best sense.

On the zzr1100 you have 4 x small brass vacuum take offs situated between the carbs & the head, can't remember if they are actually on the front (head side) of the carb or on the rubber joininers to inlets but certainly in that area

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/furoreproducts/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

On the ZZR11 the vac take offs are on the rubber connectors.

On the installation I did I drilled the manifold runners and tapped them m5, then screwed hobby mig welder tips in, and connected the gauges to them.

I also used those take offs for MAP MJLJ, but no reason not to take them out and put short m5 screws in, with either fibre washers or a blob of gasket gloop, to blank them.

I can't remember which carb has the idle adjustment on, I think it was number 2, but you balance out from that one using the spring loaded screws on the throtle shaft connectors.

The Greek tan is fading along with the holiday memories.....

You've downloaded the wrong version.

I downloaded the english version just before my previous post.
