BEC shift lever movement

I'll need to make/get a shift lever for my conversion and would be curious to hear what people's thoughts are on the amount of fore and aft movement that feels "right" at the height of the shift knob. And what about the height itself - perhaps the top of the lever even with the centre of the steering wheel?

I have a complete shift linkage including lever removed from my Fury / Blackbird. If it's not exactly right it might act as a good starting point???

I have found this to be perfect:

Your hand come out of its natural position on the the wheel and straight onto the lever, but with enough room for your hand between. It has about an inch of movement each way which makes for a nice precise shift without to much travel

Will keep that in mind but I already have a cable and a "tower" for the tunnel so just need the levers at either end and a bracket for the cable at the engine end. From another post I've seen the suggestion to use a pit bike gear lever at the engine so just need the bracket at the engine (which I'll fab from ali sheet) and the lever in the car itself.

Thanks for the picture and the suggested range and height; I'll use that as a starting point but ensure I have some flexibility in the various lever arm lengths so that I can play around a bit.
