2008 R1 stalling issues
Anyone running a 2008 R1 motor, one of the boys has put one in his mini and he's having issues with it cutting out / stalling. It ticks over
fine and is happy going up the gears and general running around the problem only occurs when slowing down quickly i.e. coming down the box to a
standstill from a spirited run.
We have two westfields running the 2006 engine but they are quite a bit different.
I'm thinking fuelling, initially I thought it might be surge in the tank but he's run the car with the tank 3/4 full and it still happened
the tank is tall and wide ( across the car but thin (front to back) so I don't think thats the problem, .
I'm not too sure the fuel is piped up right as the set up is different to mine but it's been done as suggested by z cars so it should be.
Mine has the bike pump installed in a tank and has a dedicated feed and return from the rail but his engine only seems to have one feed to the rail no
return? He's using a seperate pump which goes to a regulator which has an outlet to supply the rail and an outlet for a return to the tank.
If anyone else is running this engine how are you supplying the fuel? do you have any pics?
The car hasn't got a power commander yet which it will need as its running K&N filters and a virtually straight through can straight from
the manifold but I don't think this is the issue.
Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Andy this might help, it might not, the 2 later r1's that i had did work on both used the stock R1 pump, it's a fed supply only no return,
without seeing his fuel set up it's hard to rule out any problems with it, or confirm it's ok.
The other would be the DBW throttle set up, again i never altered the stock sheilded wiring on these, only the other wiring. While it's
prefectly ok to modify the wiring a bad connection, or any kind of interference will cause the ecu to alter the fueling accordingly.
So 1st off i'd check the wiring to the Throttle bodies and then check out the fuel side of things. Neither could be the cause of his problems,
but they're 2 things to check 1st.

Andy pretty sure I remember mine doing that, have (SteveD I assume) check the clutch is releasing properly when hot. You might remember the trouble me
& Paul had double driving at Harewood with this issue.
If that is the problem but adjustment does not help send him my way and will sort him some pics of the extra oil line we run to keep the clutch temps
down.

Thanks both of you, it's a while since I've seen it and never been present when it's been running. The info I have is from telephone
calls, i'll get my self over and check out whats going on with the fueling / wiring and maybe get some pics.
Kev, from the sound of it he doesn't have to give it much / do much distance to suffer from it so I'm not sure about it been the
clutch.
I'll try get on and have a look this weekend
