BEC oil pressure how high is too high

I took the mnr out yesterday for it's first little run after the conversion from R1 to ZZR14

only a few miles to chack everything over plus i need to run the engine in as it's new
i've fitted a stack mech oil pressure gauge, and once warmed up it was reading 15/20psi at idle
but once i got up to about 6,000rpm it was on about 90psi (the gauge only goes up to 100psi!)

does that seem rather high? but maybe that's down to being a new enigine plus i have a front mount oil cooler fitted

apart from that and the body getting a bit hot where the manifold is rather close,( i've ordered some self adhesive heat shield to stick to the inside)

it went well i guess!

Not sure about your engine, but with cool oil my pressure goes to 100psi (gauge maximum). The pressure relief valve is supposed to limit it to 80psi, but when I asked biker folk they said this was normal.

I swapped the engine and the second one did the same thing, so I assuming its part of the design.

From my perspective the only risk is blowing the oil cooler.

Good idea to check that this is normal for your type of engine.

Ok Matt thats good to know, i am running the standard bike clocks and that does have a oil pressure light, but i guess that doesn't work for high pressure

i'll have to check what a standard mocal oil cooler can take, another thing is the gauge could be wrong

ETA mocal oil cooler is good for 150psi and they test them up to 170psi

My RF900RR (GSXR1100W based) enging often went to 90psi, and 120psi when cold.
But I always wondered was the pressure sensor I fitted, before or after the pressure valve.

Sounds high compared to theR1 both at idle and revs. Difficult to say not knowing the '14 but if they are both higher than expected, it could be the gauge or the oil being over cooled; Have you got a 'stat on the oil cooler or an oil temp gauge?

The sandwich plate has a thermostat that opens at 80°C
