R1 5PW FUEL PUMP ISSUES

hi guys quick question i have a mk indy r1 5pw still building but just about ready for first start i am using the standard r1 fuel pump mounted in tank in a small sump about 1.5 inches deep i have put a galon of fuel in the tank and tried starting fuel pump runs as it should and got a good spark but dont seem to have a massive amount of fuel pressure with it disconnected off the rail and the pump running you get a steady trickle.... from past experience i thought it would gush out....... and cant see or smell and fuel going into the throttle bodies....any ideas anyone i was wondering if the pump needed to be submersed deeper in fuel.
