newbie info

hello, i have been watching this forum for a while, and think it is a good source for info and insparation.
i am about to start a project of my own, i am half way through cutting the bad bits out of my fiat 500,i know it's not a locost or kit car, but i am fitting a bike engine in it, and by the time i have finnished it WILL be more home made than fiat so hope you don't mind me asking a few (probably stupid) questions.
firstly i have read about the Q reg cars only having a smoke test for emissions at M.O.T so fuel injection engines without a cat are o.k, does anyone know if the same might apply to a 1972 car, as i would like to use a fuel injected R1 engine without the need for a cat.
are there any reverse systems that can be used with a chain driven drive, as the engine will be possitioned in the back between the front seats and the rear wheels.
will probably think of more that i need answers to later but for now thanks in advance.
Lee.

Re Reverse, you could make a reverse system with a motor that drops down onto the chain.
