Track day noise; donnington 4th sept
Im taking my indybird to donnington next sat.
noise limit is 100 dba static and 98 drive by. Should I get away with this in my blackbird car with a normal daytona 600 exhaust can?

It depends to some extent if you are running the airbox or an open filter. If the latter then I would doubt it TBH, you have to try quite hard to get
a BEC under 100db static if they apply the letter of the law to your tested RPM (usually 3/4 max rpm so 7500-8000).
As a gauge my blade with sausage filter and a Stuart Taylor can (repacked before the test) was around 103db at 7800rpm, and to get it down much below
100 Id need to go for a big can (say 7" diameter and 28"-30" long) plus probably an airbox and some underbonnet lagging as well.

Can you just ease off a bit as you go past the noise detector thingy?

They didn't static test last year. Mine was running an open airbox and a road legal R1 can and had no problem. Mine does have underbonnet
lagging though .....

Ive been told that the driveby noise meter is on the left of the pit straight and it is easier to get past the noise rules if your exhaust exits on
the drivers side of the car.
Any thoughts?

Failed noise test last year along with loads of us inc Ultima i saw some seriously pissed off chaps. The decibel gauge does in not have to be set
distance from tail pipe they had it inches from mine n would not tell me how far above i was chaps was wedging coke cans up exhausts. Do it this year
and they can forget DONINGTON . There was no briefing last year if your a first timer you need it!!! ORGANISERS NEED TO GET THERE ACT TOGETHER.

The noise monitor at Donington is one of ours (company I work for). If I remember right, its not in the most ideal place

I thought you could only go out on track on the sunday at Donny, we went on the sat last year and could go and see the track. Could hear the ultimas
going round.
Might just be the public who cant go round to the track though.

Sounds good,
Ive managed to persuade the nagging wife that i really DO NOT need to go to her mates wedding so will be there both days.
Fingers crossed the westy will pass the nosie test, (not convinced it will though)

use less revs/ set a rev limiter, this is what we did with our race car at goodwood where they're bloody tight on noise. alternative is buy a
bigger silencer as already suggested or strap another one on the back of the existing one to get it down a few more db's.

hi there...
I bought a slip in baffle for my race can which can have a go at if your can is too loud..
I'll be there both days, but as it's a standard daytona can, I think you would maybe need to be more concerned about your intake
noise....gimme a shout if you want to try it though (its held in by a bolt so you would need to drill a hole on the outlet of your can )

Thanks Colibriman
Ill bear that in mind as i cant think of anything worse than not being able to drive because of noise.
Will you be parked on the mk stand?

Good point about the intake noise, though i am running a std airbox which should help. If im in trouble I may try to put something over the inlet
trying not to restrict flow.
I think im most worried about the mechanical noise coming off the engine and gearbox but dont know that I can do a lot about that.
Any1 know of anything that I could use as lagging. Its too late to buy some real stuff.
