BMW R80, Honda VF400 (55), CB450 (57), CX500, Kawasaki GPZ500s, EN500, Guzzi V50, V65, Suzuki GSF400, GS550, Yamaha XS500, XT600 and a few others!
I'm no expert, just happen to have an old 'used bike Guide'. Trick is though, where to get one - if you find a decent bike breakers
near Lincoln, let me know!!!

The GPZ is a great little engine in almost all respects, economic but surprisingly powerful. I had a GPZ500 for a couple of years and it was great
fun to ride, barely any slower than the more powerful SV650 I had at the same time. Get a later engine from a 'D' model (1994 onwards I
think) since the early ones have a habit of the magnets in the flywheel coming loose and destroying the stator.
If shaft drive would be useful, have a look at the Honda Deauville NT650V (aka "Dullville" ) which is a 650 V Twin in a low state of tune
making about 56 bhp. These plod on for huge mileages.

Yes. If you want air cooled, then the Suzuki GS500 engine would do the job, though 'only' 44bhp.

To add a 2 stroke
Tdr/tzr250.
Water cooled, incredible noise, frantic and very light!
Kick start only mind!

Also wears out in a month... if you twist it's throttle a bit.

If 50bhp-ish is all I was ever after in an engine, then my choice would be the KTM 690 engine.
Single cylinder engine, made by Rotax, super light (I think it floats away if you don't tie it down!), 62bhp, 47 ft-lbs of torque... and
it's water-cooled!
It's Evolution Baby!

Can also reccomend the GPZ500 lump
Have been running one for a few years (in its intended chassis) and its been faultless
Tappets are traditional and adjustable without havng to lark about with shims
Service intervals are sensible, servicing is a doddle
Potentially lots of em about as they were used in quite a few machines and for a LONG time second gen EX500 was 94- 2009 (as well as in the KLR, ER5
and some chopper styled thing IIRC)
There's possibly a few been written off and sat around for dumb stuff like dropping bikes (water pump cover gets eaten in just a few foot of
tarmac even at walking pace..and they are not cheap new and not /that/common second hand in good condition..ask me how I know!)
As for getting more "go" out of them I don't think (esp on the GPZ spec lump) there's much scope as I believe they are quite
stressed already (the specs are lower on the KLR and ER5- I think I read its in the cams - certainly understandible on the KLR where you would want
the grunt lower down rather than the dollop just after 7k)
I'd say I get about 60 to 70 MPG out of mine pretty much regardless of how I treat the throttle
sounds like a lawnmower at low RPM, but I didn't get it for the soundtrack
Regards
Rob

...clack...clack...ringggg...dddiiinnngggggg....clack.....clack...
Initially I had an RG500 lump in the back of the Jedi. It's not a daft idea fitting a large two stroke, just one hell of a laugh!
I had looked at replacing it with a snowmobile engine, but there was simply far too much grief sorting out the transmission. If only snowmobile
engines had gearboxes.
