Fireblade ,Uprated clutch

Anybody fited the PDQ "Super heavy duty" clutch springs?
Just put them in mine. they are about 10mm longer than the old ones and thicker. Fitted, with standard bits look like there isnt much room for them to release without binding?
Is this normal?
.....before I put my £8.00 clutch gasket on and shut it up!?

Exactly the same as I have, recommended by a few people on here, I reckon they will be fine.

Rich.

Lets hope so then,
Thanks guys

Going to try Copperslip on the gasket as suggested in a post recently to try and make it re-useable?

D'OH!!

Just fitted a new clutch. Didn't do the copperslip on the gasket thing.

Ah well. I'll remember next time.

That used to be the only way in many cases. I remember spending evenings when I was 11 or 12 oiling the face of the covers and pressing them onto the gasket paper to mark the outlines and hole centres and then cutting them out with scissors. I had a selection of wad punches to punch the holes nice and cleanly. The last time I bought gasket paper, it was under $3.oo (one pound) per metre for 600mm wide stuff.
Ah those were the days when you knew how hard you'd ridden the bike by the size of the pool of oil on the floor the following morning!

I laid the sump on a sheet of mdf and drew round it, then while it was still in place used a drill bit that fits down the bolthole and just twist it with finger pressure. It makes the hole the right size and in the right place.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I wouldn't recommend using MDF as a substitute for gasket paper Pete!

Oops, forgot that bit

Put the paper in between the sump and the mdf . My excuse is I have a stinking cold so I'm struggling a little with reality.

I knew what you meant, but couldn't resist.
The only drawback of tracing around the sum or casing is that you aren't able to trace around the interior of the thing.
If you smear dark oil on the joint face and carefully place it down on the paper, it gives a perfect imprint of the mating surface including all the holes and irregularities. Plus, the oil helps to prime the paper.

When I was a boy, we used to lay the gasket paper on the item and tap around the edge gently with an hammer. We used to use the ball end of a ball pein hammer to mark the holes.

Oh back when I was a boy, those were the days. Christ, I sound more like my Father every day!!

Cheers
