Gen1 busa clutch

Looking at a clutch job for a customer. Dax Rush with a gen1 Busa. As far as I can discover the age isn't identifiable from the engine number (just the bikes vin...) and there appears to be choices on the clutch depending on year of manufacture.

Does anyone know a way to find the year or whether there is a difference in the clutches? ...and a way to tell the difference?

R1's are more my area and I've tried the local Suzuki dealer who came back with 2 possible clutch sets. I might have to pull it and get part numbers but I'd rather not have it sat in bits waiting for parts if I can avoid it.

If you have the engine number, then you can contact Suzuki UK customer services, and they can match it to the original vin number... I did this , it took 5 minutes with them on the phone

First reply.

Mark Steggles reply.

Its easy to tell its ether a 99-2003 or a 2003-2007 engine , look on starter clutch cover is it has a dimple its 2003 on if its flat its 99 to 2003

Sprag/starter cover and gears from the later engines may well find their way onto the earlier ones... there are also some rather nice aftermarket versions.

Anyway, what I would do is assume nothing and pull the clutch. You may find an aftermarket set-up, a welded clutch basket centre, a later assembly, anything. If you're pulling the clutch because there's an issue, absolutely assume nothing.

I speak from experience, I have a Gen2 (or at least most of it seems to be) with some interesting differences from that expected. Barrels are Gen1 (the Gen2's are windowed and crack if bored apparently), crank does seem to be the 1340 though, but the output shaft is something different...

The owner has been in with a folder of receipts from the original build including one from Holeshot. Tried calling them to see if they have any info' but no answer/joy yet.
Suspect it'll end up in bits to find out.

It slips once the revs get up, plus it's a bit binary so once the clutch slip is sorted it might get a smaller bore master.
