chain drive diff

hi all, im designing a single seat mid engine BEC and planning on using a R1 engine, my question is how can i use a car diff (lsd or open) with a chain drive? would something like this http://www.grabercars.com/Mambosite/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=62&Itemid=42
work?and how could i keep it lubed?
sorry for the noobie questions but all help/advice is appreciated

there is a GTR over at MK's workshop at the mo with an R1 engine driving a short prop shaft to a ford sierra rear diff, maybe some one over at the workshop could post a pic of it for you ?? snoopy ??

There was a few recent threads also (worth a search) about modifying car diffs too accept chain drive, i think people posted pics too, I doubt you will get too much reponse today as the weather looks good and loads off people off here will be attending Harrogate kit car show.

hi Dave,

We've done this with our University racecar, although i'm not sure on details I could possible get you some photos of the install by Monday evening if your interested. I didn't design it and don't know exact details, but it is basically a modified Audi diff (not sure it matters what diff you use). The components from the diff were built into a custom diff housing to which a sprocket could be bolted. The mounting bearings hold the protruding shafts on either side, then the UJ's to the wheels.

I suppose the effect your going for is to replace the crownwheel with a sprocket, a case is required to hold the bits together and to hold oil.
