fireblade starting..urgent.!!!!!!!!
finally got round to starting the engine after a few basic problems it will turn over when you move the sierra switch to number three.(ie start)...but
it will not stop when you turn it back to number two..it seems to carry on..!!! this dosent sound normal. but then having no experience of bikes im
not sure.
(ps have found the caps lock button and ripped it of..no more shouting)

Sounds like the starter solenoid is sticking, try giving it a tap, had this problem on my bike, was worse when the battery wasn't fully
charged.

Ditto that, unless you mean its actually running, not just cranking, and won't stop?
Otherwise I suppose if that is'nt it then the ignition switch could be faulty, or you've accidentally wired a latching circuit in,thats
keeping the starter relay energised?

I had a faulty switch that you actually had to turn back after it started and had to replace it eventually for the same as your problem.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

may have cracked it..was told by premier to connect a red and white wire to the relay ( a lucas loom) from the ignition switch..disconnected that and
it seems to crank and then stop as it should..
NOW ITS SERIOUS IM OFF TO GET SOME PETROL AND DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING
(SHOUTING DELIBERATE BECAUSE I SOOOOOOOO EXCITED..!!)

Are you sure you've got it wired in correctly? On the bike, you have a start switch, and a stop switch. This stop switch needs to become
connected in order to stop the engine. If you've got your start switch wired into the position 3 on your ignition barrel, but going back to
position 2 doesnt make this connection on the stop switch, it wont stop.

He's using the Sierra ignition so it's off/on/start. The bike has ign lock/ign lock+sidelights/off/on. The kill switch only cuts power to
the coils and leaves all other circuits live. Off cuts all power same on both switches.

Ive never used a Sierra ignition switch so maybe I'm misunderstanding, but if Position 1 is wired up to Off, Position 2 is wired to On, and
position 3 to activate the start switch, then switching back to position 2 won't do anything because its still in the On position, i.e
you'd need to switch right back to Position 1 to cut the engine?

The third position turns the starter over, like pressing the button on a bike starter, position 2 is the running position and 1 is off and steering
lock. You have to switch off to get the key out same as your daily drive or bike.
