Flight recorders?

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Don't know, caucasian women don't have them.
They're the bike world's version of a car's on-board computer. There's usually not a problem as long as you have the one that was originally fitted along with your engine.
Problems arise when people are sold one from another year/model etc. or they've mis-wired the car.

Most black boxes are relays...

Then ECU, Regulator/Rectifier, lot's of sensor's regarding temperature and air pressures.

Make sure you have the ignition barrel as this contains a small resistor which is vital if you want to start the thing

It looks like a total glut of wiring... most you can chop out as it is made to suit the bike. Just be careful and follow a path - get a good electrical diagram and follow it circuit by circuit. It all comes together pretty easily. Trust me, I'm no electrician but I did it without so much as a fuse blown or error - flat battery allowed?

Great engine - apparently better than a Hayabusa due to output gearing... but who knows? I don't think there's much to seperate any of them really...

HTH - feel free to message or U2U if you need specific questions.

Did you get the ram pipes (air trumpets), fuel pump and sender?

Just a few of the things that are so easily overlooked - not necessarily vital though.

Can't see any of the parts mentioned above. Is that it, or is there a box full of other bits such as ecu, rec/rec and sensors etc?

Looking at that pic you have two of the ram pipes in position, so theres probably another two in the box you mentioned.

Any chance of a picture showing the other side of the engine. This may help to identify what year it is.

Don't worry if you don't have the ignition barrel/switch. You just need to splice a 100 ohm resistor into the grey wire from the ignition.

It's definitely an A1 or A2. The 'B' engines have a fancy throttle control between no. 2 & 3 throttle bodies.

Ours is a 2004 engine and has a similar throttle arrangement (as picture), although the engine mounting bracket on the exhaust side, looks to be different
