Removing water/oil cooler on Blade?

I'm not sure if this applies to other blade engines too, but my 919 uses the water coolant to cool the oil down, in a sandwich plate arrangement before the filter.

Is it possible to remove this as it adds quite a bit of depth?

Clearly I'll implement a different style of cooling, using a normal oil/air cooler and a radiator.

Any info appreciated.

Im pretty sure Ive seen it done, but in its place you'd need to fit a blanked off sandwich plate and then mount the oil filter remotely, I dont think the oil filter would bolt on directly in its place.

I think Ed just fitted an additional sandwich plate for an oil/air cooler but left the original oil/water cooler in place. Fundamentally the same procedure if you were ditching the oil/water cooler though, just need a sandwich plate that can sit directly against the block and take a filter like Ed did, or remotely mount the filter like I did on my R1.

Talk to Mathew at Think Automotive (0208 5681172), he knows his stuff and is very helpful... Did this with my first car and have a similar arrangement with the current one.

Have a look here for the bits I've used on the current car: Clicky

Yep Think Auto is where I got all my R1 bits from, as John says Matthew is a good bet as the bike engine knowledge is a little variable depending on who you speak to.
