Mig on exhaust
If an exhaust is mig welded together rather than using tig does the airflow get made much worse because of the penetration.

To get perfect interior weld contour try a
back purge of argon. ( TIG )

Zortec who make it charge £380 for the manifold and downpipes. The cans start at £120 but i think it may be better to source my own can.

Well, it certainly looks the business, but then it should at that price. I don't think anyone else can tell you whether or not it's worth
it, depends how much you've got to spend, and how much you think a nice looking exhaust is worth.

The welding and general construction certainly looks better than the ST one, and although more expensive and without silencer, when compared to other
places, £380 isnt extortionate for a full stainless system.

that does sound v.expensive. i'm picking up a second hand cateringvan manifold for £25 that's nearly new!
the 4-2-1 should give a slight preformance increase though, will allow the engine to breath properly. if the lengths are optimised you should see an
extra few bhp.
£500 for full exhaust system though - I'd ring round and get a few more quotes, show them the image to show them what you want and see what they
say (other exhaust manufacturers that is) or try and haggle the price you've already got down a bit!!
Just my 3p's etc etc

Some places will wanna charge you the best part of £1000 for a one-off built exhaust system, hence my comment on it being reasonalby priced! The bends
for example look to be done properly on that one above, whereby they dont reduce internal diameter. Some cheaper exhausts are bent using conventional
tube benders which dont keep the tube diameter when bent, which reduces the amount you can flow through it and so reduces performance. You could get
any half decent welder / fabricator to knock you up one for considerably less, but whether it would look / perform the same is doubtful (assuming the
above system has been properly designed for the engine in question)

Thanks guys.
I think the pipe lengths are tuned to be optimum and these guys seem to have done a lot with bike engines. As I dont know that much about exhausts,
im a bit worried that i may get ripped off by them telling me that it is optimum when it is not. Ill have to give it serious though before I order
one because im not sure i can afford to pay that much.

How much is a performance system for the bike the engine came from. It doesn't look expensive when you compare it to a tuned system for
something like a blade which will cost around £500 + cans. Could you turn the collectors on a standard system with a couple of bends to get them
exiting the right way?

why dont you make your own? you can buy stainless mandrel bends for a tenner each, just cut and shut them to suit, it's a bit time consuming but
a lot cheaper, mine cost about £100 including a box of stainless rods and four laser cut flange plates. As far as tuned length goes, i wouldnt get too
hung up on it.

Hmm, although exact tuned length etc might not be 100% critical, but it still needs to be pretty close. If you get exhaust gasses out of phase you
will most likely get excess backpressure in the exhaust and get probable flat spots in the power delivery. Unless you can accurately measure an
existing bike exhaust and make one the same, I'd stick with a proven design / builder if I were you.
