ZX9 C or E???
I've been offered a ZX9 E1 (with 3000 miles and all ancillaries apparently) for £750 which seems ok. But will using an E make any difference to
a C? like different mountings, gearbox, performance (i think it has a few more bhp?)
I may be building an Indy used for hillclimb and sprint racing.

Stronger gearbox too, if your not sure about engine mountings try asking on the Yahoo BEC list, they'll know.
Sounds cheap to me, can they guarantee mileage - ie do you get the clocks???

I'm about 95% sure that the mountings are the same between the C and E series engine - my friends fitted an E engine into an almost complete
Phoenix.
The exhaust ports (to the outside world at least) are slightly bigger so the manifolds from the Cs don't fit properly.
The carbs are visually slightly different as well and the electric components (regulator / ecu etc) are different, so make sure you get everything.
The power is supposed to be a little better in the E series and FWIW it has a higher compression ratio.
Another difference is that on the E series there is a signal taken into the ECU from the speedo. We've not yet been able to establish what this
is for. One suspicion is that it is simmilar to a system employed on the 'busa where if you're in certain (lower) gears then it retards
the ignition slightly to limit max power with IIRC the aim of stopping bikers flipping over quite so easily.
The ZX9 doesn't have such an easy way of electronically determining which gear you're in as the busa does so we wonder if it reduces power
at lower speeds to help prevent flipping. I would emphasise that this is merely a THEORY at the moment and so if anyone reading this can confirm or
quosh this then please do so.
If you're anywhere near Leicester then it would be easy to arrange for you to see a C series and an E series side by side for instant
comparison.
