Could my CDI be F**KED
The engine is a 88 Kawasaki ZX10, everything is coming on and working but im getting no spark?????
I know theres a live feed going to the coils as its the same one that goes to the fuel pump and the pump is working fine. the other 2 wires that go to
the coils are coming from the Ignighter/CDI unit.
It worked fine before i removed it BUT when i was doing a bit of soldering very close to the CDI i forgot to unplug it, could this have damaged the
CDI?
Does anyone local have a spare CDI that i could borrow just to see if its the problem as i dont want to spend £35 on a replacement if theres nothing
wrong with mine.
Thanks.

I would doubt very much you have damaged it by doing a bit of soldering.
Check the crank pick up and wireing and the sidestand/clutch switch wires to make sure they are connected/bridged correctly

I can't help with the diagnostics of the cdi unit I'm afraid. I do have the Haynes though, so if you need the relevant pages I could copy
them and post them to you (no scanner I'm afraid).
I blew one up once, but that was by leaving one of the coil input leads lying on the chassis. Hmm, melty.
However Zilspeed did have a VERY simplified wiring diagram for the zx10.
It was here http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=54962
but for some reason I can't open the pdf. No doubt a u2u to him would see a copy on email to you. As I recall it was about 5 wires. Much
easier than using the bike loom.
In fact if I ever get time, I'm going to remake mine in the same design.

Its getting very close to being finished now, going to update my blog next weekend, hopefully by next week it will be 85-90% complete. It will only be
missing brakes, lights and nose cone/engine cover.
