ZX10R or R1????
Hi all,
I'm about to fit a new engine into my Westy, and have the choice of an 07 ZX10 or an 06 R1. Anyone any thoughts? The R1 engine seems to be a
lot more widely used, however the 07 ZX10 is slightly more powerful (and newer...).
Cheers!!

ZX10R, coming down in price all the time & it's a Kawasaki & therefore comes without exploding clutch & gearbox as fitted to the
Yamaha - don't think it's as fussy about being baffled either, but may be wrong on that score
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

Possibly the least helpful post possible, but how would the ZX12 compare to these two? I ask because the two quickest RGB cars this season both use
them and Hellfire and others have had good experiences.

I would go ZX 10 if I had the money for a 3.14 diff.
Remember the ZX 10 is internally geared lower.
An R1 would be happy with a 3.62.

I thought it was only the very early 98 R1s that had clutch issues. The newer R1s are a little more fragile by all accounts but probably down to
being lighter and reving higher.
Whats the gearing like on the ZX10? The newer R1 has a hugely long first gear which would make it a challenge to keep good pull away and top
speed.
ZX12 is very powerful but quite heavy and a dry sump appears to be recommended for track use.
CBR1000RR comes highly recommended.

ZX10R, but you MUST consider your diff ratio as has been already mentioned above.
The freelander diff is an obvious choice...

I reckon of all the litre engines, the ZX10R has to be the current favourite.
Personally, I'd go for the ZZR1400

Has anyone got the dimensions for a ZX10R at all?? My Tiger wouldnt take an 05 R1 due to the height (of the servo motor operating the secondary
butterflies) but do like the idea of sticking with a litre engine (due to the classes used in sprinting).
