HAYABUSA POWER

Im planning to build a indy and put a busa lump in it thats the plan anyway. the one thing i'm bothered about is the donor car do i go for a XR4x4 or XR4i , do i need a LSD, does ether one of these cars come with a LSD. is it best to go for discs all round...
NEED HELP big style....


any info on putting a munster bike engine in this car would be most welcome....

i think discs all round is probably a good idea, all sierras from GLS upwards have rear discs, some have better ones (maybe vented? dunno). one of those cars will also have an LSD, someone will confirm which! again, probably a good idea to do LSD so corners stay to plan!

If you go for discs all round you'll have to fit twin master cylinders or a pressure limiting valve to stop the rear brakes having too much effect....it's an SVA fail!! Go for a Blade or R1 tried and tested and no messing about with dry sump's etc etc As for LSD, I can only say you can still go plenty quick on road and track without one If you can drive that is

I'm using R V8 with discs front / drums rear.

If that set up can stop a fully loaded 1.8 Sierra with a caravan, it'll do for my car!!

Regarding LSD, its not really a requirement on the road and not quite so critical in an IRS car as a live axled car when on track, but it will still help enormously especially coming out of slow corners with the extra power that a 'busa gives you, so Id try and get one if possible.

Busas dont actually need dry sumping in most cases, there are several sprint / race cars with busas in that stiill use baffled wet sumps, including a 350bhp Dax turbo sprint car, its just that because of the extra outlay on the engine, its probably wise to protect the investment with a comparatively cheap (compared to replacing the engine) dry sump.

Not sure if that was tongue in cheek Jon, but ive edited it to be more subtle and I'll take it off if it aint allowed. Lots of other people do it on other forums, TBH I didnt even think to look to determine here was any different.
I only post on the BEC part of the site and its entirely BEC related, I dont make any wonga out of it anyway, just pushing a bit of pocket money the way of my uncle as thanks for doing various bits n bobs for my Locost.

nah, was just n idle comment chris, not meant for you to take any offence what so ever...........

what did pee me off recently though, was when i advertised my spare blade engine recently at a very reasanable price and some one (nameless) posed as a "private" buyer after it, all they wanted was to add there "£££'s" to it and sell it on, rather the man in the street had it if u know what i mean...........

Hmm I assume you're referring to one of the kit car manufacturing fraternity there, tis a bit cheeky them doing that and I know exactly what you mean, just keeps prices artificially high if they do that to all the engines.

I dont suppose you have / know of a 919 blade crank laying about anywhere do you? I took apart my old 919 that I blew up last year after a sump plug AWOL incident, and its run a big end and knackered the crank journal as expected. My current engine is also in need of a crank now tho, as its stripped the drive gear that goes onto the clutch at Donnington a couple of weeks ago. So now have two otherwise perfectly useable 919 engines sitting in my garage apart from both having crank issues. The galling part is that the drive gear on the big-ended crank is perfect

only one i know of is the one that blew in the GT1, but that was crank too, next time i speak to MK, weekend prob i will enquire as it can be an alladins cave there at times...........

Sorted...XR4X4 it is,
Im only bothered about 0-60 time (0-100 really).. not top end speed, wats the best diff to use 3.88..3.90 ect.
and this baffling i take it this is cos the engine is turned 90deg. who's best to talk to about that...

I SVA tested my Indy Blade without twin master cylinders or a limiting valve. Passed the brake test with flying colours. It was an XR4x4 donor car

Jim did you use the rest of the car as a donor, eg prop...diff...ect
and did you put discs all round (not sure wat 4x4 has all round).

I used the prop, diff etc. Yes discs all round. The car i had was a C Reg XR4x4 2.8 i.

Somehow I as got a age realted plate!!

Were exactly are you in Rotherham 'cos you can come and have a look if you want. I live very close to Chapeltown, sheffield

BEC engines

We've got a lot of turbo bikes here in America (relative to the UK, I am told), so I thought I'd chime in.

Turbo GSXR1000:

This is the only turbo 1000 I've heard of. Hopefully it will prove to be as strong as the Busa motor.

Yes, its insane what they are getting out of the Busa motors. Also, taller 5th and 6th gears are available. A big plus if you've got a turbo, since you'll hit the top of your gearing quickly.

Gixxer 1k:
From what I've seen these dyno about 10-12hp more than the R1s. Supposedly they are lighter & shorter than the Busa engine. Maybe a good alternative? I guess they aren't as proven.

I'd be much more concerned about hp/drag than hp/weight. Maybe its just the tracks around here, but there aren't many corners I'm not coming out of at 70-90mph in my Toyota Supra. One would think the aerodynamics of the GT1 would give it an advantage over a Sylva, possibly making up for a worse chassis (if it is indeed worse, I have no idea).
