1st time starting engine

i should be starting the engine in the next few nights.

it has been sat for 5+ months with not a lot of oil in it, obviously i will get oil pressure on the starter with the plugs out first but is it worth putting a drop of oil into each cylinder?

If they are new rings then no start it dry. If it's already run in then it couldn't hurt.

Should be alright without it Dan.
Just make sure it has oil/water etc, then turn it on the starter until you've achieved oil pressure then drop the plugs in and crank away!

I usually take the oil pressure sender out and use a clean pump oil can to force oil 'backwards' into all the oilways, using whatever is needed for a temporary seal between can and block. That way pressure is up almost immediately, minimising dry running time.
Put the sender back before cranking though.
Overkill I know, but, it also primes the pump, some of which wont pump dry.
Rgds.
Pete.

Overkill??? No Way... just sensible precautions. It takes a spoonful of oil and a little time. Thats a very little expense compared with an engine rebuild, or even a small damage repair.
