Hi Craig, You can use the R1 fuel pump but I think it is intank so you will have to provision for that. alternatively you can use a bosch external
pump part number 0580 464 070.

Hi Stu
That being the case i assume i would need to fit a return to the tank, also would i need to fit a regulator to drop the fuel pressure from the pump.

If your engine is injected then you will have to have a return to the fuel tank, then you can use either the R1 pump or the bosch one.
If ti is carb'd then you are better off using either the R1 pump or an alternative bike external pump as these turn themselves off when up to
pressure. No return to the tank or pressure regulator needed.

As it is injected you will not need a pressure regulator either as it is already fitted in the fuel rail where the return connection is.

What happens with the exup valve is it discarded or used?

I am going out to the garage in a while, I'll have a look and if possible box them up to send tomorrow.
The exup valve is used it is fixed to the chassis wherever you can put it out of the way. Not sure on 03 models but on 05 it gives an error code on
the R1 dash if it is not connected. I would leave it connected otherwise your ecu may not give you full power.

Not having the exup does throw up a faulf code. You can leave it out and make up a little box of tricks with some resistors, etc, that fools the ecu
into thinking everything is ok.
Here's my original query on exup valve.

This is BobC's gizmo.

Does it affect the ecu?
I thought that people using the engine, minus the clocks (and exup) was ok?

If your not useing the bike clocks then you can just do away with the Exup. Simply throws up a code (that you don't know about without the
clocks) but the ECU doesn't alter anything because of it.

Cheers for that!
You read threads like this and start worrying when you are told you will lose power etc!

You may well lose power, how are you going to know? although you have no visual display that there is a fault you are still using the ecu and that
knows there is no exup valve connected.
"If your not useing the bike clocks then you can just do away with the Exup."
I have seen lots of people still have the exup valve connected and not use the bike clocks.

When fault 17 (Exup open circuit - code you get with no Exup) is detected the ECU reacts by attempting to move the Exup motor for 3 seconds then stops
the motor. If that doesn't fix the problem it puts the light on.
However, if you don't have the dash you won't know about it or any of the other faults/codes that could appear; or be able to test sensor
inputs to the ECU or activate the various actualtors (coils, injectors, etc) to diagnos problems. For example if you have a missfire on no3, then using
the dash, you can fire both the injector and the coil individually to see if thats where the fault.
