shift lights

fitting an omex shift light which has 4 LED's (hopefully it will work) to my 1993 893cc blade now that my new paddleshift obscures the rev counter, question is

for max grunt do I set the shift point to the max torque or max bhp figure?

also do I set it just past that mark to allow for a drop in revs when changing gear?

whats everyone else with the same engine using as their shift point?

I would think a shift light should be on as you approach peak power. You rev just past peak power and then change. That is how i set my Koso up.

You will probably find that with your engine your peak power and peak torque are Xbhp apart...

So, I would set the shift light to Peak Power and you will find that when you change gear it is then at the Peak Torque figure in your Rev Range...

I have set mine at peak power,on the dyno max power was at 13050rpm,so mine is set at 13000rpm,the rev limiter comes in at 13500rpm,and power only drops off a couple of bhp between 13000rpm and 13500rpm,so if I go over a bit,its no big deal,so long as you don't hit the rev limiter which tends to slow your progress.

893cc blade engine

i'm really after replies from guys with same engine, eg

"The original power unit was a four cylinder carburetted 893cc unit and produced around 120 bhp at 10500 rpm and 62 ft/lbs of torque at 9200 rpm"

therefore from what I can gleam so far I set it to 10500 or just over & as I change gear this will bring me within reach of max torque, yes/ no?

The same theory applies to any engine, car or bike you need to change at the point at which your produces max power, the best way is to get it on a dyno,it will give you the correct figures your after, dont forget the figures you have are for that engine fitted in the bike, you have a different exhaust etc fitted to your engine so your bhp and torque figures could be very different for your car.
