charging battery
hi all
before i sart the engine i want to get the oil pressure up but the battery doesent have enough juice in it to turn the engine over enough to get the
oil pressure up
so i was going to hook up my car battery to the bike engine battery with jump leads and just turn it over that way, that means i wont have to
disconnect all the cables etc to haul the battery out
anybody see a problem with this ?
i have jumped started bikes may a time this way but just want to double check
cheers

remove the spark plugs.
if the battery cannot turn the engine over then the battery is knacked, too small or somethign is seriaouly wrong wit hthe engine.

I'll second an Optimate. Mine is on charge all the time!
And I have jump started it several times from my car before I saw sense and bought the optimate!

bike batteries are all 12v now aren't they (i thought they were still 6v until i saw my neighbour jump start his bike from his car)
engine on the car running, jump start as normal, but without any spark to stop it actually starting

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

I am sure I read not to use a running car engine, due to the output from the alternator? Maybe not...
Have you checked your earth strap? I thought my battery was buggered, but in he end, it was a dodgy earht causing the lack of turn-over. Just a
thought...!

Take your plugs out and it will turn faster to get the oil up.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I'd invest in an optimate, especially if it will be a seldom used toy, it keeps the battery topped up and ready for those impromtu blasts on a
summer evening - much better than getting all set up for it, and a flat battery ruins your night.
They aint expensive and can be left on all the time, plus with the water proof connector you just plug it in - take 3 seconds, rather than having to
attach crocodile clips things to the battery terminals.
Car jump start will work for your first start though.
