Oil level light? Baffle plate?
On my 5vy R1when I start up everything is fine, all lights out and loads of oil presure. Then after its run for a couple of minutes the oil level
light comes on, still plenty of presure and oil in the sight glass (1/3 down). Then when it gets hot, out goes the light!
Happens every time.
So here's my theory... the oil isn't draining back through the baffle quick enough when its cold and the level in the sump drops just
enough to trigger the light (with the angle of the engine in the fury the sensor is higher than normal). Then when its hot the thiner oil flows back
fine.
So, given that I don't intend to thrash it when cold everything should be OK...right?

Yep, got baffle plate in and slight overfill.
Cheers, feel happier knowing its not just mine.
Here's another one... after running stationary for a while in the workshop the engine warning light comes on. I get code 42 which is no speed
sensor reading. Move the car and out it goes. Glitch in the programing?...getting confused when stationary for too long?

Who told you my birthday was next Saturday?
...oh, you mean SVA day. Test is on Monday the 12th. 10 days and counting...and running out of jobs to do.

I have exactly the same happen to mine. does this matter and will it be worse out on the road. Surely if the oil level light is coming on then the oil
pickup isn't going to pick any oil up and could lead to dry bearings.
BTW Did your car pass SVA?

Well it seems ok once the oil warms up. Think it gets back through the sump baffle better then. The oit level sensor is higher than standard the way
I've got the engine mounted so comes on earlier. When its on I've loads of oil presure.
Failed the sva on emmisions and noise. Think I've sored it now and got the retest booked for the 27th. Hopefully I'll get a cancellation
and get it done sooner.

Well after a week/350miles it seems Ok once warm...untill it's at either continuous highish revs (7500 on moterway) or giving it welly. Then the
oil level light comes on after a couple of mins. Pressure is good. Ease off and it goes out after 30 seconds or so.
I think the oil just isn't getting back through the baffle quick enough. The level is high in the sight glass when the light is on. So the
question is...
Do I...
A. Remove the little butterfly bits from the holes in the baffle.
B. Drill some more holes in it.
C. Do both A+B

Hi Adrian,
I would be tempted to enlarge the existing drain holes and try to "swage" the hole such that the oil is encourage to drain back into the
sump.
This is what I did with by R1 baffles (for 98-03 engines) and I have never seen any issues with oil lights coming on. The fact that you see it is
worrying. I personally do not like the little "butterfly" openings on the baffles that fluke motorsport sell (I presume you have one of
these).
Regards
Paul
