'94 blade emissions (SVA)

Car is all but finished and its time to think about applying for and readying car for SVA.
Engine is '94 893cc blade with TTS sausage filter.
Having (ahem) done a few 'test drives' around the block, the car won't pull cleanly through the rev range (hits a wall at about 5-6000 rpm and just won't pull through it.)
I have the correct dynojet kit ready to fit (supplied by Andy Bates) but he advised not fitting until after SVA as he reckons it'll fail the emissions otherwise. I'm not one to question this but the dilemna I have is that I'll have to drive the 40 miles to Exeter SVA and don't want to run risk of holing pistons due to running too lean on standard jets etc.
So has anyone passed SVA emissions with dynojet kit fitted?
Or are there any tricks I can use to make standard carbs run smoother until after SVA? (I have balanced the carbs but can't fit standard airbox as there just isn't the height under the Avon bonnet to do so.)
Andy did suggest covering the sausage filter with duct tape - leaving only an inch or so of the filter exposed to artificially richen up the carbs for the trip up but still runs like a bag of spanners when I've tried this out.
All thoughts greatly appreciated.

Andy.

I would fit the kit before SVA as you will only have to meet the 3.5% co 1200PPM HC tests due to the engine age which is not a problem
I MOTed a blade BEC friday last week with the same set up and passed emmissions realy easily at 2.5CO 1000ppm so shouldnt be an issue at SVA

Just make sure you have info to prove that it is a 94 motor or you wil have to do the full CAT test which is a little more tricky

Rich

PS without the kit it will be as weak as buggery through the middle and top end

I passed with dynojet fitted no problem and with the whole thing set rich.
I would be more concerned about failing on noise with that filter fitted, hence why many, including myself leave the standard airbox on for SVA.
My understanding is that the blade needs still air at the carbs too, (airbox) or it wont run properly.
I 've never tried with a sausage filter , but I know for a fact that it wont go above 5-6k with open carbs.

I have a 94 Suzuki RF900RR fitted to mine.

After previewing my reply just notice someone just said the same.
so delete start agian.

I don't know why but mine was tested in Oct 03 at 4.5% CO 1200ppm HC and passed at 3.21% 338ppm HC.

I had not fitted any jet kit at that time.
It ran worse than your description.
Driving 10miles to the test was not fun.

So bigrich has good advice.

Good luck with the test.

Fit the kit mate, it won't be a problem for exactly the reasons Rich states...

Right, I've started to fit the dynojet kit.
I'm using initial settings as recommended by Andy at AB Performance which are circlip in 2nd groove of needles, 132 main jets and blocking of air pilot holes.
Thing is, the kit contains a drill to enlarge the two small holes in bottom of each slider. Andy made no mention of these when I first talked to him initially.
I can't get hold of him at mo' to confirm if this is necessary and so was wondering if others have done this?
(I've also looked at a link for blackbird carbs http://www.zen69595.zen.co.uk/carb.htm
which are identical to my blade carbs and again, there is no mention of enlarging these slider holes)

the only thing i drilled on my blade carbs was the air jets so i could fit the blanking plugs into them. i didnt alter the slide holes at all,

Have now completed fitting the dynojet kit and 'WOW' what a transformation!!!
Its like driving a different car -she just wants to fly! (admittedly I'm not going above about 8-9000rpm as the noise is deafening and I've got to be a little careful to not upset the neighbours since its not SVA'd yet etc...)
The car also seems so much more tractable and is now quite happy to pootle around at much lower revs and yet pull cleanly away without having to change down a cog or two.
BTW, managed to speak to Andy Bates and was told NOT to drill out the slider holes under any circumstances!
