R1 5JJ airbox rubbers

Afternoon all,

Could someone tell me if the following airbox rubber is the correct one for the Yamaha R1 5JJ please. Just cutting a new aluminium backplate for the filter and before cutting the holes need to ensure we are fitting the correct rubbers. I was expecting them to look more like these on fleabay.

Opinions please.....

It looks right but you should have two types.

The rubbers for the 4XV engine are all the same and look like the ones in the photo.

ah gotcha. There has been some confusion as to which engine is actually fitted as a lot of the stamps on the block say 4xv but was sold to the previous owner as a 5jj. It is running on 5jj electrics anyway now!!

Thanks for the info chaps

If the engine has (or used to have) an AIS system it's 5JJ, if not it's 4XV. Simple.

I'm sure there are two types (left and right) but I can't check, sorry!

Well i have just spoken to Ben (001Ben) as its his car we are building between us, and it has a 5JJ stamp on the crankcase (as well as the AIS system) but has some 4XV stamps on the head and carbs. Not sure if this was just the way Yamaha did things or not if they made no changes.

Yes, the 5JJ uses many 4XV bits - they only updated the bits that needed updating (which makes sense!).

Thanks Coose. It all makes sense now. We can crack on with the final few jobs now and hopefully Ben can get the car MOT'd in a week or so. Just a few jobs to do now - airfilter, finish welding up the wheelarch brackets, spray the nose cone, bleed the brakes, clutch conversion / baffle plate etc etc etc.

Parts that were first used on the 4XV kept their part codes and stamps through the 5JJ and even the injection model 5PW.

Trust me, if you have 5JJ stamps and AIS, then it's a 5JJ motor.

Woops - got distracted (bloomin' work) and took about 10 mins to post. What Coose said!

yeh mate another stamped part to check is the inside of the stator cover , just so you know for the rubbers there should be two with a small L and two with a small R on it

any old 600cc+ engine needed ? aslong as its a runner including loom and carbs/bodies
