I haven't fitted a catch tank on my 5vy R1 engine, just a breather filter. I haven't had any oil come out of the breather so I'm not going to bother fitting one.
If you are going to race it then there may be a requirement for it but for road use I don't think it's required.

I've run a catch tank on my 5VY and it's caught a little bit. What it does catch is very watery and i certainly wouldn't want it going back into the engine!

You will probably need one if you're competing.

Regards

Wyn

I'm running a catch tank off the standard breather, into the catch tank and then that breathes back into the air box. I don't get any oil in it on the road, just a bit of condensation. I do get a bit on the track. Without the tank I was getting oil in the air box and a big puff of smoke exiting some corners.

Sturt i'll be sprinting and using on track so there is a requirement to have a catch tank of min 1 litre if its not a closed system i.e. breather left as standard and feeding into the air box.

I know of someone who has had problems with an 07 engine pumping the oil out on track and have heard its a problem on 04-06 engines too, I believe the solution is to have a return pipe direct to the sump.

Its interesting to know that there are others having no problems though?

RK trust me I have searched but me n search engines don't seem to get on, if you come across the thread i'd be grateful of a linky

Cheers
