Giving my fireblade carbs a good seeing to - NW?

Hi Folks,

My emissions were out at the recent SVA, and I'm pretty sure I'm running rough and out of balance.

I don't have vacum gauges, or the first clue about sorting out the carbs so the car runs well and can pass emisions.

The engine is a 1994 so the emission test "should" be pretty easy to pass.

Does anyone local have the know how and fancy having a play for a pack of cool ones?

If not then does anyone know a local garage who can sort it on the cheap?

I do plan a proper rolling road at some point, but right now I'd have to guess that money is too tight (not that I know how much it would cost to sort out to be honest!)

Thanks

Dint know how close you are to this garage, but they come highly recommended.
Also have rolling road
A.B Garage
unit 167b Hawarden Ind Park
Manor Lane
Hawarden
Deeside
CH5 3QX
01244 537701

He quoted me £80-120 for tuning both the bike carbs AND the megajolt,

Mike

Thirded! Well worth a trip but you will have to book it in. Don't mention my name as to say that my car was a bit of a challenge for them is an understatement!

I'm surprised SRT are still solvent! The van is down at the Tap virtually every day (Before you say it - I have an excuse, I take the dog down to the woods a lot!)

To quote my previous post elsewhere in the BEC list: -

"You can balance carbs using a bit of hose (windscreen washer hose will do nicely) and a good ear. For this process we'll call carb 1 the one nearest to the front of the car, carb 4 nearest the bulkhead, You may need to adjust the tickover whilst you're working between the carbs - this is normal: -

1, Remove the air filter/air box so that the carb bellmouths are all accessible.
2, Start the engine and get it up to temperature.
3, Starting at the carb 1, take the end of your hose and place it near the opening of the slide, a few mm away from the slide so as not to impede the air flow.
4, Take the other end of your hose and place it near to your ear and listen to the sound - you'll hear a steady pulsing sound.
5, Move the end of the hose to carb 2 and place it in the same position and listen again.
6, Adjust the balance of these two carbs if required until the sounds are as similar as you can get. Once you've adjusted one carb, blip the throttle a few times to make sure that the adjusters are seated properly and check again. You can take the hose from your ear when you blip the throttle as it may smart a bit if you don't!
7, Move along to the carb 3 and adjust this until it sounds the same as the other two. Blip the throttle again a few times. ***NOTE*** Do not adjust the first carb adjuster as this will upset the balance of carbs 1 & 2.
8, Move to carb 4 and do the same again. Do not adjust between carbs 1 & 2 and 2 & 3.

Job done! If it's good enough for Pops Yoshimura it's good enough for me!"

Ok newbie question of the day, what exactly is "balance" in relation to carbs and how do you adjust it?

Its when each of the carbs is pulling the same amount of vacuum I think isn't it?
On my carbs there are 3 screws spread between each carb. One for carbs 1&2, one for 3&4 and then one to balance 2&3 or hopefully the two pairs.
The screws act as stops so if you look you'll see they're in a threaded set up device. I'll show you when I bring the steering wheel up Gav if you don't find them first.
