Beaten by a Clio Sport!
On the way back from the shops, I entered the traffic light grand prix in my Triumph Daytona (~130bhp in the bike)powered 7, against what I thought
was a stock Clio Sport. I was all over him in 1st and 2nd, but missed the change to 3rd, so he pulled away. Through the rest of the gears I
didn't lose anything until the aerodynamic wall where he pulled away strongly, so I backed off as I wasn't prepared to o chasing at the
sort of speeds he was doing.... I was with the mrs, with a full tank of fuel, and a weeks shopping, but I still thought I would wee all over him! His
car was running a meaty exhaust, R888s and had a 'ring sticker, so I wonder what he had done to the engine, as he was clearly a serious trackday
monkey.....!
So, should I be worried, or was I expecting a bit much of a fully laden BEC, still running on the SVA map, with the SVA silencer and cat? Or should I
start looking for that Busa/ZX14 lump now!?

Fully laden BEC? My GTS is quicker than a BEC with 2 people in... The extra weight makes a huuuuge difference to what is otherwise a very light
car!
So I wouldnt worry too much.
I got a bit worried when I tried to keep up with a clio sport in the mini the other day. He didnt leave me but I wasnt gaining much either...

how fast are 05 lagunas? I pulled fast away from the lights (as per) and he overtook me! I planted my foot and clawed it back.
Vs a family car I'd expect to obliterate! I guess thats the 102000 miles time for a rebuild to up that compression.

Alex, I knew you would be first to pipe up! It was still quicker than yours will ever be dragging that anchor and house radiator around with you!

Erm well yeah I would be worried!
I work for Renault and know the renaultsport well. Depending on the model the later R197 or R200 both weigh around 1280kg. They make as the name
suggests and all do 0-60 in about 6.7/6.9 secs. Top speed they'll do ya but acceleration isent amazing imho.
My mate has a Pug 106 Rallye S2 with a 16v conv. and can out run me in my brand new 'Alien Green' R200 with cup chassis.
My low powered BEC destroys the R197/200 and the Pug and thats 2 up (im 14st)
Im quite surprised reading what you said! Maybe it was heavily tuned??

Go and stand in a corner and reflect on what you've done. By missing third gear you've brought shame and embarrassment on the BEC
community. How could any car possibly be faster than a BEC? He must have had a twin turbo and have caught you unaware whilst carrying your half ton of
potatoes from the supermarket......... Go and find where the chav lives and challenge him to a drag race........

more like you'll put it towards organic potatoes, there probably lighter than normal ones, might save a few pounds in that heavy (now official
labelled slow) beast!

A sterling idea... And this time, I wont miss any gears (gear linkage was loose) and I'll leave the mrs at the shops!
Ian - I'm sorry. I must hang my head in shame. I mocked you for having a slow BEC, and it was wrong....

Passengers do make a big difference in a BEC. I'm always surprised how much a difference it makes.
Luckily this PM I was ragging it round my neighbourhood solo stylee Laying black lines all over the shop!!

I was out in my buddies Clio on Sunday. Its a modified 182, puts out around 195bhp. Weighs in around 900 kgs. So its hardly the worst car to loose
to. Its not like a 1.2 Corsa bashed you in
Assuming you can remember where you left the gears, you'll have to drive around abusing people at traffic lights until you've reclaimed
your lost pride

also think missing a gear is quite a key point, suprising how much momentum that will loose for what seems like a split second, as can be seen in any
race situation, if its a keen clio though 200bhp+ is quite easy with just throttle bodies and cams.
have a friend with a stripped out track day clio with that spec and its quite rapid

Let's be honest, missing a gear in a bec [or on a bike] isn't exactly an unusual occurence!

No Paul, it's a 3-cylinder, 955cc. Standard, the engine was 130bhp, apparently this one was breathed on. It is quite torquey for the cc, as each
cylinder is that bit bigger. The gearing is also quite short (top speed ~108), so the acceleration (I thought!) is good. I did a 4.5s 0-60 the other
day (timed by the dash), without really trying. But at the moment, it is running the sva map, which was only setup off the RR. So hopefully more to
come (before I kill the gearbox)!

Just pulling your leg bit mate ,Ive had a blade engined s7even,and now have a clio sport,my fireblade car which would be around the same performance
as your daytona,up to 100mph from a standing start, you should have no problem beating the Clio sport, the s7ven will change direction better, corner
better, come out of corners better, and out brake the Clio, although they are quick little cars, they are no match for a well driven s7ven on the road or
track.
The Clio sport would be faster from 80mph to 140mph than most 1000cc bike engined cars though.
