FILTER KING pressure setting

Fitted one of these for the replaceable filter cartridge, but i think it could be causing fuel starvation problems when suppling the fireblade engine.
I can't seem to rev the engine above 7-8000 rpm without it sounding like its being starved of fuel. I know these filters are normally used on cars. It is adjustable, but does anyone know what i need to adjust it too ? and has anyone else experienced this problem also ?

Are you running with the orignal airbox or have you done anything to modify it?
Just out of interest what fuel pump are you using?

The airbox is in the bin. There is now a pipercross foam jobby across the 4 carb tops. The fuel pump is the standard one off the blade. The fuel pump is driven by the pulses off the coil, so the pump must run fast at higher revs, but i think the filter king is limiting the pressure. I will increase it, but i was wondering if i could learn off somebody elses experience

Did you re-jett the carbs OK after fitting the pipercross air filter?
As far as I know most blades don't have fuel pumps as standard. I know some do though. What year is your engine?

damn fine question ! dont know is the honest answer, but honda are working on it for me. I bought it off ebay you see as a stolen recovered unit. Most of the engine number has been removed by the little tinkers that thieved it.
it is approx 1995 according to the bit of number that is left tho.
I have put 95 carbs on and bought a loom that had the coils, ecu and fuel pump with it.
I had to work out a fair bit for myself, but in the haynes book, every blade wiring diagram has a fuel pump in it?.
I am going to buy a stage 3 kit from Dynojet , so the airfilter and exhaust all match up.
Do you think it could be jetting rather than fuel pressure then ?

Yep - the air filter / air box thing is most likely your problem.

The airbox slightly restricts the flow of air compared to a air sock / sponge solution. At higher revs you are running the engine too lean without it. There is a mod to get round this whereby you fit slightly larger jets (128 for an air sausage, 132 for air socks - I THINK) and also block off one of the pilot air jets in the carbourettors. A mate did this for me, or you can buy a set of jetted carbs from Stuart Taylor.
Without this you will find the engine won't rev above 6-8k rpm.
The easiest thing is to fit the airbox and see if your problem disappears.

If you are running a standard blade fuel pump then you don't need any regulator in there at all. The bike pump will pump to pressure (about 1.5psi) then stop pumping until more fuel is required. You only need a regulator with a Facet type solid state pump which doesnt sense pressure and just pumps continuously regardless of demand (or lack of).

If I were you Id set the Filter king to a high pressure setting so in effect its not doing anything other than filter, and let the bike pump do the pressure regulation like its meant to.

For info, early blade engines had the fuel pump, later ones relied on gravity feed from the tank but you can use a pump on any year of blade, and you can use virtually any bike pump from a similar sized engine (as long as its also a carbed engine) as they all do pretty much the same thing, and in most cases are the same pump anyway.

BTW, I agree on the need for a re-jet if its the first time it has run with a sausage filter, 128-132 main jets sound about right.
