calling all ZZR1100 owners...... Question (clutch)
afternoon all,
Guiness etc .....
well you will all be glad to know i got my new zzr engine.... Thanks mark.s for sorting....
So im rebuilding it and i come gto the clutch.
Ive cleaned up the piston etc and put new fluid in and bled the system.
what i cant do is get the bike to engage the clutch fully while in gear.
i guess a clutch works the same as a car so i assumed if i keep bleeding the system n topping up the reservoir then when i pull the lever the main
chain cog where the prop adaptor would go would spin freely...
well mine doesnt no matter what i try.
So i decided to have a look at the clutch from taking the side off the engine..... NONE THE WISER.
although when i pull the lever i can see the plate lift but only by about 10mm.
QUESTION should the LAST clutch friction plate lift out of the clutch drum to enable the clutch to be engaged so the prop can turn freely????
Please help cos im confused.
does anyone have a pic of the Clutch drum while the clutch is engaged.
any help would be great.
PS i hate and love bike engines all at the same time lol
Thanks
David Johnson

David,
I can't give you a total answer but a couple of bits of info that might help.
I have a Blackbird engine in the car. We are just redoing the clutch linkage and have found the total clutch throw is 10mm so yours could well be
about right.
On my bike a Thundercat the clutch does drag just alittle when it is cold before the oil gets warmed up. This may give the impression the clutch is
not releasing.
Hope this helps, maybe someone with more knowledge than me will post.

Wet clutches have more friction in them and the plates can stick together a bit when not immersed in oil.
My gear shift gets quite tricky when the oil level is low, which I think is because of this.
Doesn't sound particularly unusual for a bike clutch, as long as there is some resistance to the lever then I would have thought it would be
fine.
If it turns out to be a problem later on then, one good thing in a bec is that you can jack up the front and change the clutch without even dropping
the oil.
