MK GT1
Hello,
I have just brought an MK GT1, the original demo car that was shown at Stoneleigh in Canon Williams colours.
I really don't know much about it, it was an implse buy on Ebay, having always lusted after one.
Came complete with a covered trailer.
Hayabusa powered, new MOT, taxed and just serviced with new clutch.
Also a set of the four main body moulds taken off this car in case of damage.
So if anyone can contribute thoughts, history, knowledge on these cars I would most appreciate it.

I remember that one, really nice car sure much better looking than the GTR project that was sold to Spire, don't seem to recall it being busa
powered then, would suggest you contact Martin Keenan at MK Engineering it was his baby

Nice, there were not many made so it's quite unique, having the molds is a bonus it will be difficult to get replacements. Some people quite
like the shape compared with the Spire GTR version (MK sold the design to Spire)..

I think it will make a really nice car.
It has all been logoed up in vinyl and still has some "Camels" on it so the weekend project is to get it back to white gelcoat and see
what's underneath.
Then a big steam clean as it's very grubby.
Will try to post some pictures soon.
So do I paint it or just keep it white?
Always fancied Gulf colours?

I wish I had enough money spare for impulse purchases of that calibre.

To be fair it was not really impulse; perhaps poorly researched would be more accurate. I have always fancied a GT1 ever since I saw the Stoneleigh
pictures in about 2004. I had just sold another car and was looking for a BEC trackday car the GT1 came up and suddenly I found myself as the winning
bidder. Maybe paid too much but I am happy at the moment, (I haven't driven it yet), only collected it yesterday.

Iirc the canon liveried car was built and owned by mr leggot ( name could be wrong) he then went on too copy/design/build the dominator car.

Yup it seems to have only really been used on track, certainly by the last owner, who also says that its quiet enough.
I am planning t otake it to Castle Combe on 04 July.
Apparently its only real problem is that it has dual fuel tanks and on very long right handers if the tanks a bit low all the fuel moves across away
from the pickup, but I should be able to fix that as my business is making stainless and aluminium fuel tanks!
Will post pictures soon.

Martin Keenan (MK Engineering) has to be the first port of call on the car I'd have thought.
Always liked the GT1 over the GT-R/Spire car, the proportions just seemed more right to me.
Didn't Jon Ison on here have one for a short while?
There's also a guy in France I think who was re-building one - possibly liveried the same?

If my memory is correct the one in cannon colours was built by a.n.other from hull, whom later tried to dominate the market with a.n.other car,
stangly the bodywork from a.n.other car would pretty much drop straight onto the gt1 chassis as the wheelbase was the same though the a.n.other
chassis turned to be not quite up to scratch.
The gt1 is a capable chassis, I did have 2 the 1st was written off at Cadwell though I believe was later purchased from Martin and rebuilt, the second
was sold to a guy from Holland and when sold was wearing the bodywork from the car that "stared" in the kit car crisis shows.
If the diff carrier mounts have not been beefed up then they really need looking at, if there not beefed up and don't show signs of twisting
then it's not been driven hard enough yet

He was not the best t answering questions basically because I don't think he knew much about it even though he had owned it for a year and a
half. He just sent it to a local garage if it needed anything. It's filthy at the moment but I am sure it will clean up.
Major problem at the moment is access; I am too tall! LPols like I will have to take a chunk out from under the dash and there may be another 30mm to
move the seat back.
Trailer is OK, jockey wheel shot, old style coupling, no spare, new winch, clever ramps, nice side curtains. Apparently there's an awning too!

Your car was built by Paul Leggot for Andy North. Andy was/is a member on here and I bought his Tiger of Paul after he traded it in against the
Dominator.
Andy took it to France but then seems to have sold it and bought a Radical.
If you search Andy North you will find some pictures in his archive.
