YAMAHA R1 '08 in OFFROAD
AWSOME Engine. 400Kms of testing
TOP SPEED: 170Km/h
Original clutch burned on our first race - BAJA PORTALEGRE - Muddy conditions
WE need to reduce the 1st gear so the engine does not stall in rivers or uphill muddy/rocky conditions. The Top speed may be reduced to about
140km/h.
Can anyone help us out? We need a stronger clutch and the 1st gear more suitable for offroad.

Is this chain driven? If so, can't you just change the rear sprocket to alter your gearing? As for the clutch, I assume it burned out because of
the gearing, and because you were having to slip the clutch a lot? Most of us running bike engines swear by the OEM plates, with stiffer springs. I
have only heard bad things about after market 'uprated' clutch plates.

It's not chain driven, but as has been said above if you change the overall gearing to 140 top speed then your 1st gear will be a lot lower.
I don't recognise the transmission but it looks like a differential with some sort of drop gears on the input end

This is one prototype gear box, direct ratio with inverter. The PEUGEOT Diff. ratio in use is 35/9 (3.89). I will look for one 34/8 (4.25) used on the
504 vans. This will give me less top end but the 1st gear will still be too long. Where can I find Gears for this R1 Engine??

Barnett heavy duty springs will sort the clutch. AB Performance have them in stock and have good service.
Have you modified the oil breather system. It's vital in a track car so probably a good idea in yours.
Not sure there's a lot you can do about the gearing. Race bikes probably used a different set but they're not cheap I expect.

Try Nova Racing - they mention every year of R1 on their website, apart from the 2008
model! But worth giving them a call, as I know they can make custom gears and they are very helpful people.

Nova racing can make anything for you, here is a quote from their website
"As well as supplying complete motorbike gearsets, we also can also provide alternate ratios for standard motorbike gearboxes by supplying
adjusted ratio gear pairs as a direct replacement to the standard gear ratio"
Cheers
