Tranny tunnel width
Hi guys,
As I am "tweaking" my locost chassis to suit my needs and will be going the fireblade / CBR1000 route, how much narrower can I make the
tranny tunnel?
Is the only thing going down there the prop shaft?
If so, can I make it the same width all the way from the diff right to the ends of the footwells (ie narrow, straight and square) therefore gaining a
lot more legroom and easier panelling as everything will be square?

Be careful, the prop flange normally ends up over towards the drivers feet (with a blade at least, assume CBR1000 is similar), ie you wont be running
the prop straight down the middle of the car, the front half of the prop will be slightly canted over towards the driver.
Also bear in mind you've got wiring loom, fuel rail and brake lines etc to go through there, and gearchange mechanism, plus youve got to get the
prop (including the centre bearing) in and out of one end of the tunnel, its usually easier to feed the prop in from the front but if so make sure you
get a prop with a removeable rear flange otherwise you'll struggle to get through even a standard width tunnel.

could be a bit narrower at the front on the pass side, but you need all the space on the drivers side, i moved my blade engine back around 6"
and shortened the pass footwell. If the cars allready built leave it alone, if its a bare chassis with no tranny tunnel build the tunnel to suit with
engine in position

Chassis is fully built, so I'll leave it as I don't have an engine or prop yet (unless someone wants to buy my Avon pretty soon).
