Autotune Gemini 4C8 R1 First start.

YouTube Link - if it’s not on camera, it never happened, right?

The faffing at the start of the video is me ensuring that the extinguisher is ready.

I am a smidge effing delighted.

Just a few seconds after many hundreds of hours of work,
But it means everything, I reckon.
Congratulations Tim

Thanks Dave. It makes a big difference. I’ve got a new trailer on order too so I will definitely be across to see you in the new year for suspension set-up etc.

Great Feeling that is Tim getting it started for the first time

Its a great little engine the 4C8 but do not forget to baffle plate it and do the rocker cover mods

Mines been in about 4 to 5 years and has taken a lot of abuse and still keeps giving

Don't think I could have avoided the temptation for so long though.

I had intended to do it a couple of weeks ago but when I added the coolant I literally filled the engine - the o-ring on the water pipe that goes into the water/oil pump had failed and the sump filled with expensive coolant. I was not happy and had to drain everything, replace the o-ring, sump gasket blah blah...

But then, you weren’t talking about starting the engine just two weeks’ ago...

And it now moves...

Not without issue however: Digidash doesn’t like RPM signal and my rad is pretty useless.

Still, winning overall - very happy with clutch feel in particular.

Well, sat for 15ish minutes at 6deg ambient and it was up-at 100deg. Firstly, some plonker didn’t think a fan would be necessary. Secondly it’s an ancient Serck unit that probably isn’t as good as it should be. I am however a bit scared by the cost of new custom rads. Oh well.

What temp will yours sit at Adi? I should say that my oil temp is yet to go above 60-odd deg.

I wouldn't worry about it then. On mine without the manual fan switch on or any airflow it'll go all the way to the ECU fan switch on at 105c. Won't take too long either. Once warmed up/run it will rise rapidly once stationary so I'd say you def' want a fan.

Great to see your Autotune Gemini starting and moving. Racing in 2018?

What's happened to all your various car build blogs?

Cheers

Hi Mike,

I’m hoping to do something with the CSCC Open Series and/or Welsh Saloons and Sports.

Life has sort-of got in the way of blogging - that and Google deciding to no longer offer an interface for iOS.

I do have an unpublished update somewhere which I penned on holiday - might see if I can do something with that.

Cheers

I thought I’d keep the thread running...

The Gemini has been on the dyno - didn’t go bang but didn’t ‘do the numbers’ due to the ECU not liking something. This is in-hand and I should be back on a RR either later this month or at the start of next.

So what numbers did it make?

A massive 125.22bhp. Drive by wire throttle was closing at 10,500rpm so it just wasn’t getting into its stride. Unfortunately PDQ don’t have a space until 10th August so I’m contemplating dragging it to Harrogate.

If by Harrogate you mean Damian at Daytunner I can recommend him. Did a great job on mine last month.

Any idea what's causing the problem with the ECU/throttles?

Yes, that’s the thinking - it’s just SUCH A LONG WAY.

Well, I’ve just cleared the error history and all is now well so it looks like I’ve got a restricted US-spec ECU. The ECU is off to Track Electronics tomorrow for John to work his magic. YCC-T is a bit of a pain.

Confirmed to be the case. Only 80% throttle over 10,500rpm. Not all that conducive to power.

A more successful day at PDQ with a functioning ECU. Oh, and hellacious flames.
