2004 R1

Hi, has any one successfully used a 2004 r1 engine in a BEC? They are soposed to be very powerful, i heard 180 hp from one site using ram air. i also hear its a bit different in size. does this make it harder to use in the BEC becuase of this? i also wonder if you can just get by with overfilling instead of drysumping with these newer engines.

we have a customer currently fitting an 04 engine to one of our cars he is going to use a baffle plate and tulip

no harder to fit

the mountings different at the top ( making the cradle on wednesday so can tell you how much different then )

2004 R1

If you look at power and torque curves for the 2004 R1 Vs the 2002/3 model you actually see that below 8k revs the older engine is more powerful!. Its only in the final frenetic top end do you get the additional power in the new engine.

In a bike or in racing applications this might be OK, but in other real world applications you will find little performance advantage in running the new motor. So couple with the fact its twice the cost and has oil cooling problems I'd recommend people stick with the older injection engine for now.

Ram air in a car.

You would need scoops like buckets unless you get over 120mph from what I've read. You might be able to duplicate the effect with a turbo type setup.

cheers guys, i didnt even look at the dyno graphs for the 2004 model....if thats the case the older engines would be more suited to a car. i have though seen a ram air type set up for sevens, but i think the idea of it was just to get more cold air. i will probly end up going with a busa engine anyway. just looking into my options. thanks again guys

if your thinking Busa have a look at the ZX12 same power for less cost, less cost in the UK that is, don't know how your prices compare.....
