r1 catalytic convertor
Am I right in thinking that a 2002 FI R1 will be fitted with a catalytic converter?
Is this enough to get through SVA or will a larger cat from another donor be needed?
Any suggestions which other cat is OK?

Have a read of FisherFury.com, he tried using the R1 cat but ended up putting in a proper one ISTR, as the R1 one
is very small

Yes I think the 2002 exhaust does have a catalyst built into the silencer (that web link should confirm), but no lambda sensor anywhere on my 2003

so they have a small cat but no lambda control to measure what they're actually putting into it. Emissions laws for bikes in 2002 were so slack
that they could get away with it. By injecting air into the exhaust, there's pleny of oxygen to burn off the hydrocarbons and so the
bike's emmissions are OK.
Put a bigger cat on it and hope or put a bigger cat on it and a power commander to adjust the mixture to get through the lambda test? This seems to
be the choice.
There must be plenty of injected R1 car owners out there. How did you get through SVA?

I think going the injected R1 route is a relatively new thing, most R1 BECs Ive seen seem to be 2001 or earlier engines with carbs because its a
proven formula.
I know of at least 4 Injected R1 cars either in the process or ready built, but the only one that would have gone through SVA is that one in the link
above, the other ones either arent finished, or have converted from other engines so dont need to re-SVA. It might be best to give Martin at the Kit
Car Workshop a call and ask him as he was quite involved in the the build on that website, and Im sure they must have done a few more by now.
