CBR1000 Temperature
Hello.
My CBR1000 powered MK doesn't seem to like sitting still at all. I'm regularly seeing water temp around 120 degrees. Is this normal?
What should it run at? Haynes manual doesn't seem to tell me.
What can I do?
Many thanks.

My first move would be to install an electric fan and thermostat to increase air flow over the radiator.
I don't know what the optimum water temp is for your car but I wouldn't have thought it would be over 100. Anything over 95 in my car and
I start to worry.
It might also be worth considering fitting a larger radiator maybe?

the hayness doesn't tell you??
that's impossible....
in my hayness it states what it is for my VFR800
ad the fan cut in temp = 97 and cut out is 94...
Soow a good engine runs at 90degrees..
your thermostaat housing is wrong/faulty or the pump or the airflow..etc..
is it an fenomen thats aperad since the first day???
if yes then i would increase the fan power or the rad size (recommened)
Tks

You should set your fan to kick in around 105c, not much higher. Im suprised its getting to 120 without blowing off a pipe or venting out of the cap,
are you sure the gauge is correct?
Also have you checked for airlocks / air in the sytem?
If its only in traffic that you get the problem then a larger rad wont help much as its only really of significant use wen there's air going
through it all (ie when moving). You could try putting in a manual over-ride switch into the fan circuit so when you stop in traffic you can switch it
on manually straight away and try to keep the temps lower. I used this method with my blade engine and if the fan was kicked in straight away it never
got above 85-90c even sitting in traffic on a hot day.

I found the section in the Haynes where it says when the Thermostat opens (84 degrees.) Will have another look for the fan cut in temp.
Have no idea how accurate the guage is. The car is fitted with the standard cooling system from the bike.
Any moment now, something on the car will work as it should!

Having Barnett clutch fitted tomorrow so will ask guy doing it (bike shop) to look at the cooling system.
Cheers for the replies.

Haynes manual, sec. 8-10 para 13, states 98-102degC. I had high temps early on, it was airlocked, I put a couple of bleed screws in at high points to
cure the problem. I'm using the original rad & fan (I was lucky, bought an FP engine with 1100 miles on it, so the rad was in nice nick)
