Personally I would get a manifold that has equal length primarys, my Mk one doesn't. The car goes fine but I have a feeling that this could be
the cause of my difficulty getting the noise level down. It is 101db even with a 6" box 24" long.

I would definitely aim for primaries that are all the exact same length.
The diameter of the primaries will depend on what you want the car for and how you want it to perform.
Basically, longer and/or smaller bore pipes will increase low and mid-range torque (good for sprints and autocross), whereas shorter and/or larger
bore pipes will help with higher revs (longer legs).

mhh
i also messed with the exhaust lenghts and i did it all manual..
see my archive..
but don't have noise problems..
altough i use now (compared to original)
1 silencer per 2 cylinders
the noise is quet low only if you throlltle up it will make noise, and most of the noise comes out the air box..(stock elements)
grrrrrmm..
Tks
