converting to bec

What do you chaps recon to buying an already registered car engined 7 and then converting it to a bec? My initial plan was to buy the whole kit and assemble it but it seems that this is going to be a little bit to costly for me and I’m not into the building from book idea because I know I will never get the job finished. Obviously by doing the conversion route there would be personal touches that I would want to change when finances permit! Is doing a conversion a quicker way to get on the road or is it more hassle than its worth? What is the legal position with converting to bec, do I need a re-test or anything?

I’m sure I will think of a few more questions but this lot should do for starters

Cheers

If cost is an issue, as you say it is, then I would have thought there is not going to be much difference between buying a CEC and converting it, compared with buying a BEC in the first place?
A CEC is also less likely to have been originally built with BEC lightness in mind , so you could end up with the worst of both worlds?
The potential hassels are going to be , engine mountings, propshaft mountings, rear axel ratio, electrics, shock absorber/spring rates, exhaust wrong side, holes in bodywork from old exaust,to name a few , otherwise it should be fairly straightforward...
Legally an engine change should not cause any problems with a previously registered vehicle, just tell them what you've done.

we put a larger 2lt motor in a 1.2 corsa no hassle with swansea latter we got hold of a 16v 1.2 engine and tried to register the engine change even though they had the numbers that said it was a 1.2 they wanted an engineers report and confirmation from vauxhalls apparently they don't mind the extra duty but don't like lowering the taxation class
