Scuttle mounted Fuel tank???

I have just been looking through some pictures from Donnington last week and it looks like the R1 Dax had a scuttle mounted fuel tank! Can any one confirm this?

(there is a photo in my archive)

I've fitted a carb'ed engine to my car. The original bike didn't have a fuel pump. In the interest of lightness (cheapness) I had been considering doing exactly the very same thing. I've come up with two negatives. You'll have all of that fuel in your lap if theres ever a leak or accident. Gas is very heavy and mounting it up high like that won't do much for keeping the center of gravety low.

Works okay on a 911 !

As I'm making a BEC I was considering using the space that the gearbox would have taken up, just need a 4" hole for the propshaft so plenty of room for an inverted 'L' shaped tank.
