Opinions on an OLD zx10
Hi,
Considering an old zx10 engine, comes with everything to make it run.
I'm after people guestimates at part costs on the extras needed.
my stab at them is:
Exhaust manifold and end can - £350
Sausage Air filter - £50
Clocks - £50 approx (perhaps £175 if I go for them fancy ones that someone was selling as a group purchase)
Engine cradle - £100 (fat guess)
Prop and adapter - £200
Gear linkage - £100
now - the bike comes with headers, so how easy is it to find someone to chop them, so they can be turned? and fitted with an end can - inside the car
- in a similar style to calvinx had on his r1. I have pics of it if you can't remember it. Thought it might be a cheap option...
Can anyone confirm if my prices are near - and I'm after real world prices please, not "I bought this 2nd hand and spent 4 month modifying
it to fit, but saved £50 in the process" - because I'm new and dont have those sorts of skills yet im afraid!
cheers
Oh - can anyone confirm that it does NOT need dry sumping? and any other info about how suitable this engine is? Thanks!

Have a chat with stevec, he had a ZX10 before he fitted a k-series turbo.

If you decide to go for it, I can provide you with ignition wiring schematics, which are very very simple.
(Very graciously provided by Minitici aka Douglas )
It's really just a slightly small version of a ZZR1100. In fact compare pics of a ZX10 engine with those of a ZRX1100 and spot the many
similarities.
I have one myself.

The Zx10 & ZZR1100 are almost identical (I have a ZZR 1100 clutch cover on one of my ZX10's), just a few internal differences, they even
both have the same restriction on the carbs which can be removed for about an extra 12bhp
They are an excellent engine, only weakness is the starter chain which is a dead easy job to fit - less than an hour with the negine already out &
about £12 for the chain & gasket, tensioner rarely needs changing. I'd guess your prices are about right, bit high on the gear linkage
unless you're paying someone to make it.
Go for it, you won't regret it!
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

As the other members of the big old kwak motor club have mentioned, the ZZR1100 and the ZX10 are VERY similar.
The difference is made up in the bore, as they have identical stroke and most engine parts seem to be interchangable. (I have a ZX10 gearbox in one of
my ZZR1100's).
However a word of warning, these engines are all going to be a few years old now. I've gone through a few, but some people have been fine with
them. Luckily replacement engines are only about £200 from a breaker, and by the time you ebay the starter, alternator and covers off your old
engine, it's almost cheaper than changing the oil.
Mine isn't dry sumped, but uses a GPZ900 sump, which is 75mm shallower than the original.
Cheers
Mike

You either machine the carb tops or buy some ZXR750 ones.
I say machine, but we're talking more like dremelling. There. a new verb as well, to 'dremel'.
