ZX10R height
Further to the thread yesterday about the ZX10r engine, could someone measure the height of their engine please (from lowest point of the sump to top
of throttle bodies). I'm very restricted with height in my Tiger which is a fair bit lower than an MK, Mac#1 etc and couldnt fit an 05 R1 due
the the secondary butterflies servo motor.
I believe the sump plug adds about 3/4"?? Easy job to move this and maybe shorten the sump??
I was gonna fit a ZX12r but think this engine will work out much more cost effective, lighter, and will benefit if i go sprinting due to the class
structures.
Cheers
Paul

Excellent thanks. From some very quick calculations its going to be a fairly tight fit under the bonnet of my Tiger (even with a sausage filter
sticking out of the bonnet!!) and i'll certainly need to move the sump plug around to the side - and maybe need to chop the sump a bit too but i
think it will fit. It was actually only the servo motor causing a problem with the 2005 R1 as it sticks up approx 2.5" above the throttle
bodies.
Cant believe how tight it is under my bonnet (assuming the measurements i've been given are correct given by a fellow Tiger owner? - i think i
might have a trip to Chester Sportscars and measure one of their cars.
Thanks for your help there - much appreciated

Hehehe - at the rate i'm going i will miss the 2008 AND 2009 summers!! Still, as soon as i fit an engine and re-powdercoat the chassis it will
fly together i'm sure.
Malc, i'll have to give you a call shortly to see what you have in and at what price. Just got to sell a car first to pay for it so not sure if
it will be before or just after xmas.
Cheers
Paul
PS does anyone have any pics of the throttle body area of the ZX10r at all as i am still a little concerned as to the overall height - looks in the
pics i have seen that there is a servo motor for the secondary butterflies - is this correct?? Still - cant be as bad as the 05 R1 i couldnt fit due
to said servo motor!!!

Hi Rich
Do you have a pic of the other (ie passenger) side of the throttle bodies at all as i think thats going to be my problem area to be honest??
The issue i have with the Tiger is that the lower chassis rail to the front edge of the scuttle is only 605mm according to all my measurements - and
the bonnet slopes down by an inch or so from there giving a good few mm less than 600mm clearance where the engine will sit. I will be spraying my
bonnet so think i could fit a small bulge if the servo motor fouls the bonnet - maybe over-concerned on this now but after all the delays of trying to
get the 05 R1 in I really want to get this right.
I guess i can save a bit of height with modding the sump to move the drain plug???

Ah thats great thanks Rich. I take it the highest point on the engine is what looks like a servo motor betwen cylinders 2 & 3?? At least i can get
a filter on there which was impossible to do with the R1
I have been looking online for a downloadable manual but the one i found doesnt want to download onto my lappy.

That shows it pretty well. I'm sure i can figure it out looking at that - think i will get the scuttle and bonnet from Tiger as soon as possible
- they offered to supply me with slighly damaged panels (generally bits of gelcoat missing resulting from being stuck to the mould) at pretty cheap
prices seeing as i will be spraying them myself.

Aha - Thanks Rich. i managed to download it via the forum there this time having registered now. I'll have a good look through that now this
evening.
So is there any great difference in the different year's model of ZX10R engine then?? From what i can see its fairly minor due to meeting
emmissions etc

dont think there is too many differences But the 06 onwards engines are supposed to give more rear wheel horsepower up from 147 rwhp to nearer 160 if
you believe all thats in black and white.

10 / 12bhp or so........ errrrr let me think..... 06 onwards it'll be then me thinks!!
Just been very carefully measuring up again and i think i should be able to clear the bonnet and still have around 80mm ground clearance or so - more
if i move the drain plug around. Looking good (this time!!)
Cheers
