Freelander Diff for ZX10R

I need to source a Freelander diff for my ZX10R conversaion (from a ZX9). I know I need to change the driveshafts etc. but in terms of actually buying the diff, is it just as simple as buying a Freelander diff - no difference sizes etc? (unless anyone has a Sierra 3.14 they'd like to sell?!).

all freelander diffs are the same size, only difference is two models, the second having better bearings. Something about the centre viscous coupling breaking the old ones, though i may be remembering that wrong.

I think you'll find the mounting points are different on a freelander diff. The diffs I have seen have been anyway.

"big rich" has the freelander diff in his ZX10R Mac 1,send him a U2U I am sure he will be able to help.
Ive got the 3.38 LSD ford diff.My car is good for 125mph before it hits the rev limiter at 13500rpm,the 3.38 a good alternative,if you don't want to be go to a lot of trouble.

quite right, i didnt realise he meant that - it would be ridiculous for a sierra diff to be the same as a freelander diff.

you can get conversion plates though

freelander diff is a 3.21 ratio, which is great for the zx10r motor.
Mine is mounted using the O/E rubber mounts to reduce vibration and transmission noise
you will need different mounts and conversion driveshafts with landrover inner joints and sierra outers to fit into the hubs etc
The early diffs have a reputation for failing brgs but as joel said it was caused by the even more troublesome 4x4 system, so in a 7 it would probably be ok but to be sure i would search out a larger brg diff
i bought 2 complete rear ends and paid 80 quid each so they're not too expensive

Are all the freelander diffs fitted with a LSD,or is it certain models that have them.

non are lsd, its not an option i believe. You need a quaiffe unit or similar. Or maybe leave open and save the weight!

I am surprised,I assumed they would have been a LSD on off a FWD car.And do quaiffe do a LSD for the freelander,if they do I bet you not get much change out of £600 fitted,so you have to take this into account if your building a serious track day tool

3.38 alternative?

Guys - what's the general consensus on using a 3.38? What will this top out at? I'm thinking that it still may top out too low, and I'll be changing gear all the time, any thoughts? It's a case of whether to spend the extra money getting the freelander unit, changing the mountings and driveshafts, or compromise and get the 3.38.

My zx10r Indy,with the 3.38 LSD tops out at 125mph,at the rev limiter at 13500rpm.
I am not sure the 3.14 would be the best option for the zx10r,with its lack of torque,been toying with the idea of changing mine to the 3.14,but it would be another expensive exercise to buy a diff,have a LSD fitted to it,to then find out the car struggles to top out in 6th gear

Paul, i would think you would get away with the 3.14 mine pulls the 3.21 easily although i'm on 13's which slightly lower the gearing compared to 15's
seen 130mph 2 up and it gets there really quick with more to go

Cheers guys, I think I'll see if I can get the 3.38 and then if it tops out too early I'll change it at a later date to a Freelander 3.21.
