Concerned about my gearbox/clutch/diff

Hellloooo!

I've had a distinct clunking between 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd on my 893 RR fireblade powered Fury since I got it in November. Beyond 3rd clutch-down or clutchess gear changes are silky smooth. Also; he previous owner advised clutch down upchanges until into 3rd and clutchless beyond that and having driven it a fair bit now I'm inclined to agree this works best. Does this sound about right or should I be able to clutchless shift 1st-2nd-3rd as well?

Cheers
Hugh

to be honest it sounds pretty normal to me, i used to use the clutch all the time when not driving hard and clutch from 1st to 2nd and clutchless thereafter when going for it.( just to make it easier to get through the neutral gate, but will change without) Clutchless and lots of throttle always seemed smoother than 8/10ths driving.

If you go onto motor bike forums there are always folk panicking about clunky gears but it’s quite normal.

Honda CBR boxes are all very clunky between first and second, presumably as this involves passing through neutral. 2nd to 3rd ought to be smoother but whatever happens you've got no worries about synchro wear!!
Clunky changes are often due to slop elsewhere in the drive train (loose chains on bikes), badly adjusted throttle cables preventing a rapid closing and opening of the carbs, on CV type carbs leaky diaphragms give the same problem (poor response) and last of all there can be driver/rider induced clunking.
Check all the mechanical possibilities and it should be reduced. IMHO you should always use the clutch (even if it's just a tiny dip) for 1st - 2nd as it's kinder to the mechanicals.
