What thread/location 'Busa oil pressure sensor?

Hi All,

I'm pretty sure the standard 'Busa oil pressure sensor is in fact a pressure switch. I could be wrong! Is it needed for the engine to operate correctly or can it be disposed of?

Assuming I keep it what are the options for fitting a pressure sensor? T-piece in the original pressure switch hole? elswhere? Also does anyone know what the diameter and thread is of the original pressure switch hole?

Yours, Clive.

Yes, the standard one is a switch, I think it operates at around 6psi. I put a T-piece in mine, ran a take off for a mechanical pressure gauge from it. Can't remember what size thread it was though...

I was advised that if fitting an electrical oil pressure sensor, don't mount it directly to the block, mount it remotely to stop it vibrating to death.

You are right, the standard thing is just a switch and it is not linked to the ECU at all. I rigged mine to the oil light on a SPA dash I am using but if I never had the dash then I would certainly not dispose of it. How about running an ultra bright LED from it? You will then know immediately if there’s a drop in oil pressure. As for fitting an oil pressure gauge and sender, there’s a M14 plug by the O.P switch and this is what Suzuki connect an O.P sender to. Get a gauge and sender, find out what thread it uses and phone Merlin up and they will sell you an adaptor to take from say 1/8 NPT if that’s what the sender is to M14.

Excellent advice, thanks Richard, Jason. Looks like the answer is the M40 adapter with a remote sensor. I like the ultrabright LED idea too. Priced them up in Maplin, all of £1.37p for LED, holder and pull down resistor!!

Yours, Clive.

I'd go with the M14 adaptor if I were you

10mm LED with the proper mounting gizmo would be cool.

Not sure whether I had the bolt-action sniper rifle or the moterway in mind! M40 would be rather large!!

Got the LED and all today so will do some experimenting this weekend. If you see a small mushroom cloud over Iver you will know I got the voltages wrong!

Hi Jason,

I found the plug and measured it. 15.92mm across the threads and 1.5mm pitch. I'm not going mad am I, as I think that makes it an M16? My engines a '99 so they must have changed the plug size in later engines?

Yours, Clive.

Clive

you are right, it is a M16 thread.

I got all muddled up because I got sent me the wrong one which was a M14 but it was changed to a M16 which is what the invoice says.

Sorry!
